Basic information about Autism

There are many online and community resources available for parents who have children with Autism. The most important thing from my perspective is that a child with Autism be identified as early as possible because early intervention is crucial. There is testing available to determine if a child has Autism and many children with Autism also have secondary diagnoses such as Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder. The main issues that I look for are little interest in social interaction or awkward social skills, delays in development particularly in speech, repetitive patterns of behavior such as lining up toys in a certain order and getting upset if someone moves them, stemming behavior such as rocking, spinning, or hand flapping, difficulty with change, and sensory sensitivity to food, clothes, and noised. ABA therapy is very helpful for children with Autism and is available in the area.
